Do What Feels Right

I got my first product role by doing nothing for it except focusing on what I genuinely enjoyed.

I got my first product role, something I'd desired for a long time now, by doing nothing for it except focusing on upskilling myself.

Around two months back, I started creating new web designs and posting them online purely for my own learning.

A friend of mine mocked me because I conceptualized a website for Samay Raina. He thought it was cringe, that I was being a "fan", or just straight up stupid.

But the reason I picked Samay wasn't his popularity or some obsession with him.

It was because of the diversity and personality he carries with himself.

Chess, guitar, comedy, shows, dark, cancelled, controversial — and probably much more.

Maybe other people thought the same, I don't know. But I knew it looked good. I personally liked it very much so I just couldn't care less about what he said.

A few weeks back, I came across an opening for a UI/UX role.

I sent them my designs.

What I got in return:

  • "you have a great taste man"
  • "love the vibe bro"
  • and of course, the offer

But here's the interesting part.

They were looking to hire someone who could just design. But in less than a week, I transformed that role into a product role by simply paying attention to details and pointing out things that most people miss.

I now play a crucial role in the product lifecycle. Everything we're shipping now, and everything we'll ship in the future, goes through a review and quality pass from me.

So just take this as a sign.

Don't let anyone talk you out of doing something you genuinely enjoy.

Just do what feels right.

Just do what you love doing.
